Our goal is simple: to save the world, to bring balance to the force, to cross the road, to boldly go where no man has gone before. We are dreamers—we won’t deny it. But we figure if anyone can do it, then we can too, since we are all anyone. (Don’t overthink it; we sure don’t.) Foxfire Farmhouse (the Podcast) aims to point people toward the good, the true, and the beautiful in Film & TV. We are Christians who love the art and craft of filmmaking. We want to think out loud about what makes for a good movie, the kind of movie that wouldn’t put Eutycus to sleep.

Tuesday Oct 10, 2023
It's time to visit a classic movie; the sort of movie that everyone wants to have seen but somehow don't find time to watch it. Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey" lies at the intersection of incredible and incredibly boring. Those who start it wish they hadn't and those who finish it are glad they did. Thanks to some prompting from a fellow film nerd, Sean de Moura, Josh and Elijah have begun to catch up on some of these cinema-defining movies starting with this one. Listen in as Josh, Elijah, and Sean think together about the meaning of "2001: A Space Odyssey".

Frame By Frame
Tuesday Sep 12, 2023
Tuesday Sep 12, 2023
Every movie consists of thousands of individual images flashed in front of your eyes at varying frame rates. Sometimes, those images give the illusion of motion because they are captured by a camera, and sometimes, they give the illusion of motion because an animator drew images on the page. In other cases though, the illusion of motion comes from the meticulous moving of real objects on the screen frame by frame. This technique is called stop-motion animation.
In this week's episode, Josh and Elijah discuss the art of stop-motion animation and discuss what makes it so visually distinct. Along the way, they also talk through some of their favorite stop-motion movies, so be sure to listen for some new recommendations.

AFTERSHOW: Tolkien, Lewis, Chesterton, and Walt Disney
Tuesday Aug 08, 2023
Tuesday Aug 08, 2023
Welcome to the Aftershow! A fresh new episode one week early! Here's the thing. We usually sit around and talk movies and culture long after the recorder has been shut down. This time, we decided to let the recorder roll and provide bonus content for the podcast.
This time, our conversation explored Lewis and Tolkien's thoughts about Walt Disney and his classic animated feature "Snow White." You probably won't be surprised to know that Lewis and Tolkien didn't like it. However, you might be surprised at what G.K. Chesterton had to say about it.
"But wait!" you shout at your phone's screen. "Chesterton wasn't even alive when Snow White was released!" You are correct! Let me first assure you that we have no evil necromancy happening today. Rather, we consult his immortal words in his short essay called, "A Defense of Penny Dreadfuls" to imagine what he might have had to say to Lewis and Tolkien as they walked out of the theater.

Writing with the Inklings
Tuesday Aug 01, 2023
Tuesday Aug 01, 2023
If you've ever tried to create something--an innovative technology, a small business, a movie script, a sermon (you get the idea)--you know it can take an enormous amount of energy and attention and still not be any good. So how did literary giants like C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien manage to produce so much and so great literature through their lifetime. Aside from their natural gifts and particular upbringings, they also had something else: each other.
Thanks to the work of Diana Pavlac Gyler, the collaboration of the the literary group known as the "Inklings" has been laid out for us to examine. In this episode, Josh and Elijah explore her takeaways from years of studying this group and consider how we can apply this to our own creative endeavors today.
The book is called "Bandersnatch: C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien and the Creative Collaboration of the Inklings" by Diana Pavlac Gyler.
Here are some links to the movie and book Josh and Elijah recommended in today's show.

For the Love of Movies (RRR)
Tuesday Jul 18, 2023
Tuesday Jul 18, 2023
If you smashed "The Fox and the Hound", "Ip Man", and "Braveheart" together in a blender and threw in a musical dance number for good measure, you might just get "RRR" one of Josh and Elijah's favorite films from 2022. Aside from gaining recognition for being the most expensive movie production in India at the time of its release, it also caught the attention of the Motion Picture Academy, achieving them an Oscar for best original song. Listen in to this week's episode to hear Josh and Elijah's thoughts on the movie and how it encourages virtuous brotherhood across cultures.
